Who we are
Baastel is a consulting firm providing cutting-edge services in the field of sustainable development. Founded in 1989, Baastel was born out of a desire to address the growing challenges related to the environment, social equity, inclusive economic development, and aid effectiveness. Since then, we have contributed to major global advancements: from multilateral environmental agreements—particularly those on climate and biodiversity—to the promotion of gender equality, inclusive economic development, and effective governance. Our services have also evolved to cover all stages of the life cycle of an international development project, program, or policy: strategic planning, design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
With a presence and offices on four continents, our multilingual team (English, French, Spanish, Portuguese) of some 40 experts works with nearly 200 affiliated external consultants and a broader network of some 2,000 international and national experts from around the world. We also maintain close relationships with several centers of expertise in developing countries, as well as with regional and national experts whom we can call upon for specific interventions in their regions.
Our impact
From biodiversity conservation in Mozambique to sustainable finance in Sri Lanka and digital inclusion across Africa and Asia, 2025 was a year of work supporting partners worldwide. Across diverse contexts, we help turn complex challenges into actionable, results-driven solutions through project design, evaluation, and technical assistance. In 2025, our teams delivered over 100 projects across six regions, contributing to global priorities including climate action, biodiversity, and inclusive development. The year also marks key milestones, including the evolution of our governance with the appointment of a CEO and a strengthened organizational structure, alongside continued progress on our ESG commitments.
