Our impact
MCE invests across two portfolios:
Financial Service Providers (FSPs) microfinance institutions and other financial service providers that expand access to credit, savings, insurance, and business education, often in rural areas. MCE provides loans up to US$5 million
Small and Growing Businesses (SGBs) “missing middle” enterprises that create jobs and help smallholder farmers increase productivity and income. Typical loan sizes range from US$300,000 - US$1.5 million.
MCE is a growing, dynamic organization with hubs in Washington DC, Barcelona, Nairobi, and an upcoming office in Bogotá.
Purpose of the Position
This position exists to strengthen the organization’s capacity to originate, evaluate, and execute debt investments in high-impact FSPs and SGBs across Latin America, ensuring a rigorous balance between impact objectives and financial sustainability.
It contributes to the effective management of the investment pipeline and portfolio, supporting the structuring and execution of transactions, while progressively taking ownership of investment processes. Additionally, it enables the team to expand its regional reach and maintain high standards of analysis, risk management, and execution within a growing and dynamic investment environment.
Key Responsibilities
Transaction Origination & Execution
Drive regional deal sourcing: Support MCE’s Latin America pipeline by cultivating new high-potential opportunities and serving as the point person for pipeline management.
Screen and structure opportunities: Lead initial evaluations of prospective partners and prepare concise screening materials for Loan and Investment Committees.
Lead rigorous analysis: Build and assess financial models; conduct ad hoc financial and market analyses that inform investment decisions.Prepare due diligence: Prepare for and participate in on site due diligence engagements with FSPs and SGBs in Latin America.
Underwrite and present investment opportunities: Analyze investment opportunities and draft investment memoranda and present recommendations to the Investment Committee.
Expected travel time in and outside of Colombia 10-20%.
Portfolio Monitoring & Insights
Monitor performance: Review portfolio results and support Investment Managers in analysis and reporting, prepare and lead quarterly monitoring calls with clients, and conduct annual analyses of audited financial statements.
Macro & risk surveillance: Track regional macroeconomic, country, and currency risks and assess implications for the portfolio.
Requirements and competences to work with us
Education
Bachelor’s degree; Masters preferred, or equivalent experience.
Experience
Minimum 4 years in credit or financial analysis, ideally involving debt or equity transactions with FSPs and/or SGBs in Latin America.
Knowledge and Skills
Technical skills: Strong grasp of financial accounting and financial statement analysis; advanced Excel for financial analysis and business modeling.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills; ability to present complex information clearly and professionally.
Languages: Fluency in English and Spanish.
