Purpose of the position
Toroto is structured in three business units, or project portfolios. (1) Water Solutions, (2) Carbon I & 2 and (3) Carbon III. Each business unit is led by a person that reports to Toroto’s CEO. We are looking for the leader of (3) Carbon III. This role integrates operational, financial, legal, fiscal, and commercial dimensions to design and execute a portfolio of projects that deliver positive environmental and social impact. The position is responsible for ensuring adequate financing, building long-term strategic partnerships with key stakeholders (including landowners/ejidos, investors, and government entities), and achieving EBITDA, growth, while safeguarding compliance objectives.

Strategic Leadership of the Business Unit
Execute the overall strategy for the carbon business unit aligned with EBITDA and growth targets.
Launch and operate the carbon project portfolio, ensuring that at least three pilot projects become operational in 2026 and that the business model is scalable.Project Development and Management
Identify, assess, and prioritize carbon project opportunities (pipeline), based on clear technical, social, environmental, and financial criteria.
Coordinate technical project design and work plans with internal teams and external consultants, leading the implementation of the 2026 pilots and preparing projects for scale-up.Financial, Legal, and Tax Structuring
Coordinate a team of external service providers including structuring advice, financial modeling and others.
Oversee the financial model of the portfolio (unit economics, scenarios, cost and revenue structures), ensuring profitability and financial sustainability.
Define project structures, including vehicles, governance, contracts, benefit-sharing mechanisms, and legal and tax compliance, coordinating external legal and tax advisors.Commercial Strategy, Fundraising, and Stakeholder Engagement
Implement the commercial and fundraising strategy (investors, buyers, strategic partners, and capital sources), maintaining an active and robust commercial pipeline.
Lead negotiations and close financing agreements and strategic partnerships, representing the organization before communities, landowners, government entities, private companies, certification bodies, and international partners.Team Leadership and Internal Coordination
Lead and coordinate relevant management and coordination roles, ensuring effective cross-functional collaboration with operations, finance, legal, impact, data/analytics, and commercial teams.
Attract, develop, and retain key talent, fostering a culture aligned with the organization’s values, with a strong focus on execution, continuous learning, and accountability.Monitoring, KPIs, and Impact Management
Monitor financial, operational, and impact KPIs (including social and environmental compliance and safeguards), ensuring the quality and integrity of the projects.
Implement regular monitoring routines (reporting, committees, risk management, and lessons learned) to adjust strategy and ensure the achievement of key objectives (cash flow, project quality, and operational pilot delivery).
Requirements and competences to work with us
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Environmental Sciences, Public Policy, or related fields.
Desirable: postgraduate studies, master’s degree, or specialized diplomas in project finance, climate or impact investment, sustainability, carbon markets, or related areas.
Experience
Minimum 8 years of total professional experience, with at least 3–5 years leading teams or complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives.
Demonstrated experience in project development, ideally including field-based work with multiple stakeholders such as communities, government entities, private companies, and landowners.
Proven experience in business and commercial development, including opportunity origination, negotiation, and closing of financing, B2B partnerships, or commercial agreements.
Desirable: prior experience in impact-driven projects, nature-based solutions, climate finance, or carbon project development.
Desirable: experience in financial structuring, investment evaluation, and the design of project vehicles and contracts, working closely with legal and tax advisors.
Knowledge and Skills
Business models for impact ventures and project finance.
Desirable design and management of carbon projects, nature-based solutions, or regenerative agriculture initiatives.
Desirable environmental and social regulation in Mexico.
Desirable carbon market fundamentals, including additionality, permanence, leakage, baseline definition, monitoring and reporting (MRV), and social and environmental safeguards.
Strategic planning, OKR/KPI definition, and performance monitoring routines
Advanced English (spoken, written, and negotiation level).
High proficiency in office and productivity tools (spreadsheets, presentations, document editors) for financial modeling, analysis, and reporting.
High proficiency and familiarity with project management, CRM, and collaboration tools (e.g., project management software, shared documentation platforms).
