Purpose of the Position
This role is crucial for strengthening iAlumbra’s institutional relationships in Baja California Sur, influencing political decision-making, and promoting sustainable development in the region. The selected candidate will work closely with the Head of Public Affairs and Policy in Mexico, and leadership team, to influence decision-making and promote iAlumbra’s core goals.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy Development and Execution:- Develop and execute a regional public affairs strategy to support the collective's public policy priorities in Baja California Sur.
- Collaborate with the Head of Public Affairs and Policy and other leaders to align regional public affairs initiatives with organizational goals.
- Oversee special regional projects in coordination with other iAlumbra organizations and leaders.
- Advise on and consult the development of public affairs and policy strategies at both the organizational and regional levels, ensuring alignment with iAlumbra's mission.
- Serve as an executive designee, as requested, in meetings with key government officials, elected representatives, and other high-profile stakeholders.
- Collaborate with regional teams to build coalitions, advocate for sustainable policies, and advance iAlumbra’s economic and environmental goals.
- Coordinate the development of central, easily accessible platforms (e.g., intranet, knowledge databases, cloud storage) where documents, best practices, process manuals, case studies, and research findings can be stored.
- Regularly assess where key knowledge resides, what knowledge gaps exist, and who holds vital expertise within the organization.
Operations and Coordination:
- Draft and manage local and regional communications, including press releases, briefings, and other written materials.
- Manage the workflow of public affairs activities in Baja California Sur, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and in alignment with organizational priorities.
- Manage the stakeholder database and support ongoing relationship-building with key governmental, media, and community representatives.
- Represent iAlumbra in local media engagements, as needed, including acting as an on-the-record spokesperson.
- Support internal capacity building through resource development and staff training.
- Participate in organizational and professional development activities as needed.
Policy Advocacy and Government Relations:
- Contribute to the monitoring of political and media trends at regional levels, providing regular updates to senior leadership.
- Support relationships with government officials, policymakers, and international organizations to inform policy strategies and influence decision-making.
- Contribute to the development of strategies and narratives to advance iAlumbra's public policy goals, including through media engagement, digital strategies, and direct governmental outreach.
- Identify opportunities for collaboration across iAlumbra organizations and external stakeholders in Baja California Sur, fostering alliances that align with the collective’s goals.
- Participate in political advocacy networks and forums to maintain iAlumbra’s influence in key policy debates.
- Actively engage in municipal and state-level partnerships to enhance the collective’s regional impact.
Team Leadership and Capacity Building:
- Foster a culture of proactive risk management and rapid response to political or policy changes, ensuring the public affairs team is well-prepared for emerging issues.
- Provide support on coaching and training to staff to ensure the team is equipped to manage political, social, and environmental challenges effectively.
- Encourage collaboration across the collective, identifying opportunities for synergy in public affairs strategies and initiatives.
- Provide advisory services to individual iAlumbra organizations, particularly in public policy matters, risk management, and stakeholder engagement.
- Facilitate introductions and build relationships between key stakeholders.
- Support the review of technical and legal documentation, ensuring that public communications align with regulatory and policy frameworks.
- Establish formal or informal groups that focus on specific topics or expertise areas. These groups can hold regular meetings, webinars, or online discussions to exchange insights and solutions to problems and contribute to the development of public affairs and policy strategies.
Requirements and competences to work with us
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Law, International Relations, Environmental Sciences, or related fields.
Experience
- At least 5 years in public affairs, government relations, or public policy advocacy.
- Experience in sustainability, environmental policies, and sustainable development.
- Knowledge of the Mexican political and regulatory landscape.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of Mexican culture and socio-political context, including the ability to navigate local institutional dynamics, stakeholder expectations, and cultural nuances relevant to effective collaboration and representation.
- Fluency in Spanish and English (oral and written).
- Strong ability to build and manage strategic relationships with key stakeholders.
- Negotiation, diplomacy, and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience in media relations and advocacy strategies.
- Leadership, autonomy, and teamwork skills.
